history of rock and roll! January 4, 2010 Joan Barker (LA) Good book. As others have mentioned, there is a lot of stuff on the Beatles, which will be great (or not so great) depending on how you feel about them. Lots of people missing. In my opinion, they could have done a better job of covering the R&B stuff that is still influencing rock and roll music to this day. If you're specifically interested in that, Bobby Bennett (DJ from WOL) has a great book full of into about that genre, which you're probably not aware of. Over all though, I think this book will work for most people and give you a greater appreciation for the music of the past as well as how the music we listen to today came to be.
Where's Dr Hook?????? July 22, 2009 Mark Time (Planet Earth) Dr Hook put the magazine on the map with their 1972 hit single Cover Of Rolling Stone, but still they're left out here and also excluded from the Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock.
They were cool enough to promote your rag, but not to mention in any of your publications, huh?
Shameful and ignorant!!!

Rolling Stone has long been the "Gold Standard" for rock journalism. Any history of rock and roll that doesn't have Billy Joel or Bob Seger is all right by me. I need to update my copy right away! Great job, as usual, Rolling Stone!!!!!
