It was good to have some of the old time hymns that don't get sung much these days. Brought back fond memories.

My pastor recommended the cd of My Mother's Hymnbook and I carelessly bought the book. It is not a replica and I could have easily gone into my library and found the same tunes in old hymnals, so I was very disappointed.

There are two main reasons why I purchased this songbook: (1) I've become a pretty big fan of Johnny Cash in the last couple years, and (2) this was one of the only books I could find with "I'll Fly Away." Now, the hymns contained in this songbook are all great old staples of most Protestant churches. Unfortunately, the musical arrangements found here are mostly the same that you'll see in a standard hymnal. If you really want your money's worth, Hal-Leonard offers several gospel songbooks with 5 times as many songs (including many found in this book) for just a few dollars more. I especially like "The Big Book of Gospel Songs," which happens to include the exact same arrangements of "I'll Fly Away," "In the Garden," "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder," and several others. Five stars for the hymns, but three stars for this book.
