4 out of 5 stars The Good, The Bad, and the Questionable   September 3, 2009

The good news is that this book is tabbed very well and contains some real classics. If anyone has seen the book that supposedly contains the tabbed versions of the first four Iron Maiden albums, you will see that there are definitely some weak transcriptions out there. It has been enjoyable to learn such classics as "Aces High" "Revelations" and "Phantom of the Opera". The questionable to me is "Killers", "Bring your Daughter..." and the "The Evil that Men Do". Is the latter really that popular of a song, or does the band just like it a lot? The ugly is "Be Quick of Be Dead" and especially "No Prayer for the Dying". I just don't get it. Like other reviewers mentioned, there are just some very obvious classics that are missing like "Iron Maiden", "Hallowed be thy Name", "Where Eagles Dare", "Stranger in a Strange Land", and "Infinite Dreams", etc. I was fortunate enough to get a guitar magazine that had "Powerslave" in it. Instead of making another BS compilation album, Iron Maiden should authorize the release of individual guitar tab books for each of their first seven albums, and/or release the old "Powerslave/Somewhere in Time" book. I don't care about the other albums too much up until "Brave New World" (yes, "Fear of the Dark" is a good song that could have been in this book), but "Mother Russia" is a great song that never got the recognition it deserved. This book is definitely worth buying, but be prepared to get some good stuff with some songs that do not belong in a comprehensive anthology.

5 out of 5 stars A Very Accurate Iron Maiden Guitar Tab Book!   July 11, 2009

Okay, so when you make an anthology guitar tab book you're not going to make everyone happy. There are always going to be songs that someone will feel were unjustly left out, and some songs that should not have been included in the first place. Add me to the list of the disappointed. It seems as though this book only transcribed the big Maiden hits, but for many Maiden fans the stuff that wasn't popular is the most loved. Examples of this would be: Die With Your Boots On, Back In The Village, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, Invaders, the Prisoner, Where Eagles Dare, To Tame A Land, Stranger In a Strange Land etc. Sadly none of those songs are in the book.

So, "I'm disappointed with the song selection but I still gave the book five stars?" you're saying to yourself. Well yes, because the songs that were included are extremely accurate. Not that transcribing Iron Maiden is difficult in the first place. Any experienced guitar player should be able to learn Maiden by ear without much trouble. But for those who are not at that skill level, or for someone like me who collects guitar tab books as a hobby, the accurate transcriptions and overall high quality of the book is sure to please. My personal favorites: Flight of Icarus, Can I Play With Madness, The Number Of The Beast, Phantom Of The Opera, Revelations, and Wrathchild. I will admit right now I am not a fan of the 90's era Maiden catalog, so I was happy to see only three such songs included in the book.

The hope is anthology two comes out with much more of the less known Maiden songs. Heck for that matter I would love to see entire tab books of Killers, Piece Of Mind, Number Of The Beast, Powerslave, and Somewhere In Time, but I won't hold my breath. Until an anthology book two is released (if ever) the budding guitar player struggling to learn Iron Maiden will have his hands full for quite some time learning the songs in this anthology collection.

This is a very good tab book, it had a pretty good selection of songs, they left out some really good songs, but anyway the book is excellent, I recommend it.

Finally a GOOD Tab Book for Iron Maiden which many of us were waiting for. The song list is really good and the tabs are very accurate. I just with another Anthology will be released featuring songs that were left out such as "Hallowed be thy Name", "Fear of the Dark", "Man on the Edge", etc., etc...GREAT BOOK anyway!
