    4 out of 5 stars A Legend's Faith   November 15, 2005
    R. Chaffey (Chicago)

Johnny Cash has been known as many things; a musician, an idol, a superstar, a drug addict, a man of God. "The New Johnny Cash", written shortly after Cash accepted Christ as his savior, is an intimate look into the faith that altered the musician's life forever. Although it is dated, it still offers insight into the legend known as the Man in Black.

This book is a quick glimpse into Cash's life. Charles Paul Conn starts off with a brief biographical sketch of Cash, covering his youth, rise to stardom, and fall in one chapter. The rest of the book is dedicated to Cash's pursuit of a relationship with Christ and how to mingle his testimony into his profession. Conn captured Cash's journey in the present tense, which can sound confusing if one does not consider the time that this book was written in.

Many celebrities use a crisis of faith as a way to generate publicity for themselves. Johnny Cash never did that, admonishing false newspaper accounts and worshipping in a church that allowed him to be an ordinary member. His struggles and his transformation are an inspiring read for anyone who has been down and out and needed to feel the love of Christ.
