Disappointed in shipping January 19, 2009 Fire Dancer (Omaha, NE) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book, itself, is perfect and was delivered in new condition. I was very disappointed in Amazon's shipping. This book was a gift and was guaranteed delivery by Christmas; however, it did not arrive until Dec. 29. Amazon's customer service was helpful though.
I loved this book! January 28, 2008 Quanita (Cincinnati, OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a dark skinned mother and am very aware, having biracial children, of the images they are exposed to. There is a picture of at least one dark skinned girl in the book that I can think of off the top of my head. There is a young beautiful dark skinned preteen listening and dancing to her music. I love the fact that this book shows girls and women of all shades.
Good book for Little Girls December 4, 2007 Travesty (Nashville, TN) This book is a good book for little girls. I wish I had some like this when I was growing up. The content is not magnificent and the themes are one dimensional, but this is what makes it so great. The simplicity of saying that we, as minority women, are beautiful and are sisters with all women because without us, there could be no world. To a girl, that's saying a lot! The pictures are very nice as well.
Girls Hold Up the World October 30, 2007 RCK (IL, USA) This is one of the best books for "all" girls no matter what age. I am giving this book to every female in my family and some of my best friends. I mark the page(s) that exemplify the character of each individual and write a special note in the inside cover. Every page has an inspiring message. THIS IS A GREAT, GREAT BOOK!!
I was going to buy until.... February 6, 2007 Mother (Richmond, VA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I was going to purchase this book until I read there were no dark-skinned little girls in it. Wow! that's pretty disappointing. As a dark-skinned mother with a daughter who's maybe a shade lighter than me but the same type of beautiful hair (among other features), I want to read to her about our beauty as darker skinned women. No sale here. Maybe I'll write a book :-)
