    Amazon.com Review
Dennis Miller is the bebop king of comedy, the pope of the pissed-off. Ranting Again is his latest collection of rapid-fire riffs on everything from animal rights to the Internet, harvested from his hugely successful TV show. Miller's wit is razor-sharp, and his rants have the controlled spontaneity of good jazz--giving them the energy of a live performance even in book form. Like Lenny Bruce and George Carlin, Miller uses his quick, no-holds-barred delivery to chip away at some of our most ridiculous cultural obsessions. He may occasionally pick easy targets, but he hits them hard and funny. Here he is discussing the perennially touchy topic of violence in the media:

"We're all looking for someone to blame if our kid goes bad, and the media is a defenseless target for the clusterfuck of self-righteous rhetoric that passes for intelligent debate these days.... The truth is, TV isn't the biggest influence on your kids. You are. There's probably more real emotional violence and bad vibes at the average American family dinner table than in an entire season of Highlander, not to mention better acting."

Now, Dennis is not for the faint of heart, and you won't agree with everything he says, but something in here will make you laugh out loud. Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. --Simon Leake

    Product Description
Dennis Miller is back, and he is "ranting again" in this boisterous compendium that the "Los Angeles Times" called "a scream" and "People" said was "piercingly funny.".

5 out of 5 stars Dennis Miller Ranting Again   December 16, 2008
Joshua C. Schwarz (Colorado Springs, CO USA)
If you enjoy comedy, Dennis Miller, fulfills that in his Ranting Again. He is a refreshing breath in terms of most comedians who put forth extensive negative rubbish. It is easy to laugh with Dennis in his views of the world and society. This is a definite keeper, and watching it several times does not give way to boredom. Great comedy.

If comic insightfulness were power Dennis Miller would be Superman and the current crop of network laugh lizards would be the combined equivalent of Jared from the Subway ads before he ate his way into our hearts.
Dennis Miller should be mandatory in all of the halls of learning. A nice counterweight to Professor Che-Guevara at (LSU) Lobotomy State U.

1 out of 5 stars Annoying, Very Annoying...But Not Funny   January 5, 2003

I love Dennis Miller. He used to be a blast on Saturday Night Live, with his quirky sense of humor. But, "Ranting Again" is a total misfire. The usual stand-up comic subjects are covered: single life, politics, feminism, driving in L.A., therapy, etc.

I bought this as the 3-CD comedy album, and it has one fatal flaw. It's not funny. In my hours of listening, I think I had a genuine chuckle, but not a laugh out loud har-har.

If you want to get depressed about the state of driving, relations between the sexes, politics or any of the other myriad of subjects covered by Miller, buy this now! Otherwise, skip it and find something funny to buy.

4 out of 5 stars Dennis Miller, I love you!   September 18, 2002

Dennis Miller is either a love him or hate him kind of guy. I find his commentary brilliant and incisive. If you love his brand of humor, I would snap this book up. If you don't like him...go ahead; give him a try again...you know you want to!

This is one of the few books that I consistantly laugh out loud while reading, but it does give you pause to think. (Those who say smoking won't kill you are lying through the hole in their trachea) I find that social commentary delivered with a good dose of humor often is the best way to make ones point without seeming preachy. Miller is the King of this arena. He definitely understands the workings of American society, warts and all, and can absolutely hit the nail on the head every time.

This is a book that manages to deftly walk the fine line of making you think AND entertaining you.

1 out of 5 stars Pay Your Writers ROYALTIES   November 16, 2000

Dennis Miller takes a lot of credit for his rants despite the fact that he has a staff of writers. These rants are lifted from his HBO show and lost most of their intensity in printed form. It does give you a chance to test the integrity of many of his obscure references (calling Dice Clay's profanity "innocuous" is just one of many of Den-den's pretentious mistakes), but it's often hard to figure out what he's really ranting about. Dennis Miller is the most insecure man in showbiz and his constant barrage of obscure references is his way of trying to tell you that he's smarter, more informed and more righteous than anyone else in the world. As he ages, he's becoming more convinced of his own talent, despite all the mounting evidence that he's completely delusional. If you ask me, Bill Hicks said it best about Dennis Miller and all other former comics who've gone on to whore out their talents to the advertising industry: YOU DO A COMMERCIAL ENDORSEMENT, YOU'RE OFF THE ARTISTIC ROLL CALL FOREVER. End of story.
