Amazon.com Review My favorite book about Nirvana. For one thing, it doesn't sensationalize, but it doesn't gloss anything over. Having been active in the Seattle music scene throughout Nirvana's obscurity, fame, and demise, I can vouch for the accuracy of its description of the music community in the late '80s and early '90s and Nirvana's role. And being in a band that's currently climbing the ladder, I appreciated the many lessons this book has to offer about the workings of the recording industry. Best of all, because this book was written before Cobain's death, it is not tinged with the "isn't this tragic" attitude that permeates many books about Nirvana and Cobain. Instead, the book is vibrant with the energy, excitement, and passion that swept local musicians the day "Nevermind" was released, local audiences in the months after, the U.S, and--lest we forget--the world, during Nirvana's more-than-15-minutes of fame.
Product Description An illustrated, inside look at the rock group Nirvana offers a candid look the band's members, chronicling their rapid rise in the music world and revealing the true story of the drug-abuse rumors surrounding them.

Wow! February 17, 2009 Dwayne Woolward Nirvana is one my favorite bands, reading such important facts about this band openly reintroduced me to various points of the rock band lifestyle.
The book is in splendid condition with all everything needed to understand basic information of the band and especially Kurt Cobain.
Great read!!! March 13, 2008 Chad Carpenter (Kentucky United States) First off, I'm not very much into reading books, never really have been. I found this book for sell at a local flea market. Seeing that I am a huge fan of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana I decided to buy it. Since then I've not been able to put it down.
Insightful January 29, 2008 RJune08 (Pennsylvania) I saw a clip of Kurt Cobain where he mentioned this book in an interview after it had been published and he said something along the lines of he had read the first 2 chapters of the book and realized he needed to learn to keep his mouth shut. He really does open up and give a very intimate view of his life, especially his childhood and relationship with his family in this book. I know much of the story is edited and there is always a slant given by the author, but I felt the book was very insightful and answered many questions I had about Kurt, his music, and his struggles. I have not read the other biographies yet so I cannot compare them, but if you would like to hear about Nirvana and Kurt through Kurt's voice, I recommend this book. Its really a privelege to hear him talk so candidly. When I got near the end I didn't want to finish it because I didn't want him to stop talking.
A Must have ! October 23, 2007 Jung Olivier Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana is THE biography... you are fan ? Buy it! ;)
Too much speculation... October 9, 2007 Robert Williams 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
The author presents his own view of the meaning behind the lyrics of some songs as definitive and without qualifications. For example, the book presents "Rape Me" as being an about Kurt's struggles with the lack of privacy accompanying his new fame, while the song was actually written before the release of "Nevermind" and Kurt himself said in interviews that the song was about literal rape and a revenge fantasy of a rapist being raped in jail. The book doesn't even mention the second meaning, and perhaps both are valid, but the presentation in the book is one-sided. This error was very obvious to me when I read the book and destroyed the credibility of the whole work.
