Product Description
The members of Led Zeppelin are major deities in the pantheon of rock gods. The first and heaviest of the heavy metal monsters, they violently shook the foundations of rock music and took no prisoners on the road. Their tours were legendary, their lives were exalted—and in an era well known for sex and drugs, the mighty Zeppelin set an unattainable standard of excess and mythos for any band that tried to follow them. They were power, they were fantasy, they were black magic. No band ever flew as high as Led Zeppelin or suffered so disastrous a fall. And only some of them lived to tell the tale. Hammer of the Gods is the New York Times bestselling epic saga of the hard reign of Page, Plant, Jones, and Bonham—a spellbinding, electrifying, no-holds-barred classic of rock 'n' roll history that has now been updated to include the continuing adventures of the band.

Great info on song backgrounds. May 11, 2009 LoLo (Fl, USA) I wanted more behind the scenes or personal interviews from the band. The book was very informative about the songs and touring but for me not enough about the members and what made them become backstage legends.
Unreadable January 26, 2009 William Hammond (North Bay, ON) I'm a long time fan of Led Zeppelin and, if you are too, I suggest you look elsewhere for a decent read about the band. I winced my way through the first half of the book before giving up. Repetitive overblown prose.
Great read!! January 11, 2009 J. Braud (Houma, LA USA) The book is in depth and very interesting. It gives details on the lives of all the band members, personal and band life. The book was delivered on time and in the condition stated. I would purchase from this seller again.
Rigorous icon-building for minds screaming out for rock 'n' roll December 25, 2008 Surferofromantica (Singapore) A great book, covering the full careers of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham, depicting Jimmy's rise as a godfather of the London music scene, his creation of a real supergroup, how he discovered Robert Plant and John Bonham, and all the amazing adventures with visionary manager Peter Green, who protected the band and helped them earn decent money. There's tales of groupies and sex, of how Jimmy Page and Ron Wood swapped wives/girlfriends one fine day, and then also his slide into drug use. Robert Plant's life is nicely fleshed out, mentioning the tragedy of his son's death at age six and also the terrible car crash that almost robbed him of the use of his legs. The chaos of destroyed hotel rooms is there, exploding TVs and shark invasions, as well as tales of robberies, beatings and arrests. There is also a good post-breakup section that talks about Robert and Jimmy's stormy relationship, as well as the alienation of John Paul Jones. Of course, the band did play together in 2007, which is described in the book, and is the latest word in Led Zeppelin, so far at least.
Hammer of the Gods: Fascinating Legend November 19, 2008 Zepp SuperFreak (Syracuse, NY) Real page-turner. I don't know how much of this stuff was true, but it all seems very plausible, considering how much we understand of Led Zeppelin, the greatest band in history. In the 2007 London Reunion Concert, Robert Plant even referred to seeing someone with "Hammer of the Gods" enblazoned on a t-shirt. If I remember correctly he likened that title to a male body organ "..so late in life." Just do a search here on Amazon and it's for sale in the Marketplace. Not cheap, but worth it to fans of great music. This edition of "Hammer of the Gods is so up to date that it refers to this December 2007 concert. All Zeppelin fans must be this book and DVD.
