“Shapiro’s newest memoir, a mid-life exploration of spirituality begins with her son’s difficult questions-about God, mortality and the afterlife — and Shapiro’s realization that her answers are lacking….Absorbing, intimate, direct and profound, Shapiro’s memoir is a satisfying journey that will touch fans and win her plenty of new ones.” Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)

Avid Readers may remember that a few months back, we featured a piece called Remaining Unread: The Top Ten Reasons We Don’t Get to Certain Books about the books we intend to read but never do. Readers loved it and wrote in with their own tales of tomes that bested them.
This month we’re flipping the coin to the happy side to look at the books we’ve been glued to and unable to walk away from until finished.
Whether it’s the compelling characters, an irresistible narrative or the skilful suspense of a whodunit, we’re talking about the books that make us forsake life and responsibility to inhale them in one or two sittings. I remember one in particular – The Lovely Bones. I felt so terrible for the characters and what they were going through that I couldn’t bring myself to abandon them midway through their ordeal and go to sleep. Instead, I read the entire book in five hours, eventually falling into an exhausted and fitful slumber sometime before 4 a.m., and slogging zombie-like into work the next day.
There's no way to describe the infinite possibilities that exist in the world of books. From fiction to non-fiction, pretty much everything under the sun - from the fanciful to the factual - can be found inside the pages of books. Every day new books are published, older books are rediscovered, and their authors are celebrated. To keep up with the universe of books, Inside Jacket hopes to give you a place to start your journey. Bookmark us today.
